My name is
Robin Thibault, I guess you figured that out by the fact
that my name is plastered everywhere on this site. I was
born in Winnipeg Manitoba on 10 Sept 1974. The first five
years of my life was spent in Gimli Manitoba. In 1980 my
family moved to Montreal, more specifically, Dollard-des-Ormeaux.
I am presently an Officer in the Canadian Forces and work
in Kingston Ontario. I have been in the CF Reserves since
September 1993. I began my militia career in the Royal Highland
Regiment of Canada (The Black Watch); in 1996 I decided
it was time to join the corps, the Armoured Corps that is.
I replaced my Balmoral and Red Hackle for a black beret
in The Royal Canadian Hussars (Montreal). I really enjoyed
my time in the infantry but when they (the powers to be)
decided to take away the RECCE Platoon from the Black Watch
I believed it was time to move on. As an armoured soldier
I gained many skills and experiences. In 2001, I became
an Officer and with my commission came many challenges.
After ten years of service, I was finally given the opportunity
to serve overseas. In summer of 2004 I took part in SFOR
operations in Bosnia. This was an outstanding life experience.
I may have just played an insignificant part in keeping
the peace in Bosnia but at least I did my part. Before joining
the military I was an Air Cadet in the 803 (North Shore)
Sabre Squadron. Seeing that I was an English kid in a French
school system I really had no interest in any of the extra
curricular activities. Looking back on it, Cadets helped
develop me into the person I am today. I was quite fortunate,
for all my school friends (all of us English, hmm, I wonder
why that is) joined together. So going to Cadets, meant
hanging out with my friends. I also met other keen individuals
who are still my best friends today.
